In 1990 in her way from Manchester to London, a coach she boarded broke down for almost four hours. During the following months, Joanne was busy developing this story of a small magician’s adventure. September 1990 she moved to Portugal and worked as an English teacher. There she fell in love with a TV journalist named Jorge Arantes. They got married and in 1993 their first daughter, Jessica, was born. Not long after that they got divorced. And Joanne returned to Edinburgh, Scotland.
At that time Joanne lived a difficult life. So poor was she that she should go everywhere on foot though city bus fee was cheap.
